How to Recover Deleted Videos

Have you recorded some videos with your smartphone or tablet and, by mistake, deleted them? You can no longer find some videos on your PC and you are afraid that they have been mistakenly deleted? If these are the situations you are in, you will be happy to know that maybe I can help you recover your videos.

In today's guide, in fact, I'll show you how to recover deleted videos from smartphones, tablets and PCs thanks to some tools suitable for the purpose, most of them free. First of all, I'll show you how to use the default tools of the operating systems installed on your devices to recover undeleted videos. Then I'll give you some information about third-party apps and software that can restore deleted videos from Android devices, iPhone, iPad and computer.

I bet you can't wait to get started, can you? In that case, let's not waste any more time and let's get to work right away: sit down nice and comfortable and pay attention to the procedures that I'll describe in the next chapters, so you can be sure to recover the videos you deleted. Are you ready? Are you ready? I'm ready! At this point, I just wish you a good read and, above all, good luck!

Preliminary information

Before explaining in detail how to recover deleted videos from smartphones, tablets and computers, I'd like to shed some light on the procedures you will have to go through.

If you're lucky and you didn't really delete your videos, but simply moved them to the Recycle Bin (the section, local or on the cloud, where the deleted files are "parked" before they're actually deleted), you can restore them, through the latter, without the slightest problem and without running the risk of them getting corrupted.

If, on the other hand, you have emptied the Recycle Bin and actually deleted your videos, you still have some hope of recovering them, but only through third-party software and without being sure that they are fully playable, even in case of recovery. When you delete a file, in fact, the memory area that occupied it is marked as free from the operating system and occupied, as soon as possible, with new data. If you act before such overwriting takes place, you may be able to recover your movies, otherwise not.

For this reason, it is important to minimize the use of the device on which the video to be recovered was stored to avoid overwriting the memory areas that occupied the deleted files and increase the chances of recovering them in their entirety. So far so clear? Well, then let's get on with it.

How to recover deleted videos on Android

There are many solutions you can use to recover deleted videos on Android: in the next chapters I'll recommend some of the best ones.

Google Photo/Gallery

If, on your smartphone or tablet, you use the Google Photo app to manage your photos and videos, you'll be happy to know that there is a section within it called Recycle Bin, which allows you to recover all the media files (photos and videos) deleted in the last 60 days. Unfortunately, however, after this time, the files are completely removed from the device and you should, therefore, try your luck, using data recovery software, which I will tell you about in the next chapters.

To restore a deleted video from your Google Photo app, launch the Google Photo app and click the icon at the top left. In the box that you now see, select Recycle Bin to access the deleted files archive.

Now, all you have to do is locate the video you want to restore and tap on its thumbnail, then press the Restore button at the bottom right to retrieve it.

On some smartphones and tablets, such as Huawei's, there is the Gallery app, which has a similar function to the one I showed you in the previous paragraphs for Google Photo.

Then, launch the Gallery app and select the Recently Deleted album to access the section containing your deleted videos. Now, press on the thumbnail of the video and press the Restore button to recover the previously deleted video.

EaseUS MobiSaver

If you haven't been able to recover the video using the tips I gave you in the previous chapter, you can use a third-party solution, such as the EaseUS MobiSaver app for Android smartphones and tablets, whose free version allows you to restore videos in MP4 format. To recover additional file formats, you have to buy its paid version, at a cost of 6.49 euros.

You can install EaseUS MobiSaver on your device via the Android Play Store by pressing the Install button. Wait for the download and installation process to finish and start the app, using the Open button or its icon on the home screen.

When you start EaseUS MobiSaver, you will see a message to access the device root, so you can perform a thorough memory scan. In case your Android device does not have such unlocked permissions, the memory scan will be limited to the cache only, thus decreasing your chances of success.

To recover a deleted video, on the main screen of the app, press the Photo & Video button and wait for the memory analysis to complete. Once you've found the video you want to recover, tick the box next to it and press the Recover button at the top.

If you have carefully followed the steps I explained in the previous sections, your video will be restored and you can view it in a special section within the app, which can be accessed via the eye icon in the upper right corner of the app.

How to recover deleted videos on iPhone and iPad

On iPhone and iPad, you can recover deleted videos using the tools available on iOS or third-party apps like the ones I'll tell you about in the next chapters.

The iOS Photo app lets you manage the media gallery on iPhone and iPad, with the ability to recover videos and photos that you deleted by mistake. You can only do this for media files that have been deleted in the last 40 days, after which time, the data is deleted from the device and therefore, to try to recover it, you need to turn to data recovery solutions.

To restore a deleted video in the Photos app, then launch the Photos app and select the Album tab, located at the bottom. At this point, scroll through the different entries, until you find the one called Recently Deleted: In this section, after finding the video you want to recover, tap on the Select button, top right, and highlight the file you want to restore by tapping on its thumbnail. Now all you have to do is tap on the Recover button to restore the selected item.

In case you have activated the iCloud Photo Library service on your iPhone or iPad, the above procedure can also be done from the iCloud web panel, reaching the Recently deleted section.

Google Photo

Are you using the Google Photo app on your iPhone or iPad and have you activated Photo Sync with this service? Then know that you can retrieve a deleted video from the app by going to the Recycle Bin section of the app, which you can reach by clicking on the icon at the top left.

As I already explained in the previous chapter dedicated to Android, all you have to do is locate the video you want to retrieve and press on its thumbnail to select it. At this point, tap the Restore button, and you're done.

EaseUS MobiSaver

If you've deleted the movies you're interested in permanently, so you can't recover the deleted video on iPhone or iPad using the tips I gave you in the previous chapters, you can try using EaseUS MobiSaver: it's a desktop software available for Windows and MacOS that allows you to recover deleted data from iOS devices. In its free version, it allows you to restore one file at a time but, by purchasing a license at a cost of 69.42 euros, you can remove this limitation.

The fundamental requirement for the software to work properly is the installation of the latest updated version of iTunes on your PC. If you are operating from Windows, you can download the latest version of iTunes from Apple's website, taking care not to download the version available from the Microsoft Store in Windows 10, as you may encounter operating errors.

To download EaseUS MobiSaver, go to its official website and press the Download Free button. Then, under Free, click the Download button, to download the .exe file for Windows: after downloading it, double click on it and press Yes, in the User Account Control pane.

On the installation screen, click the OK button, then click Next and accept the terms of use of the software. After that, press the Next button twice in a row and remove the checkmark on the option to install additional software. Then press the Next button once more and finish the setup by clicking on the Install button and then Finish.

On macOS, on the other hand, you can download the .dmg file for the installation of the program from this page by pressing the Free Download button. After downloading it, double click on it and drag and drop EaseUS MobiSaver into the Applications folder of macOS. Now right-click the software icon and select Open from the context menu. In the message that appears on the screen, confirm the opening of the software with the Open button (this is required only the first time it is started and is used to bypass macOS restrictions for applications from non-certified developers).

After installing EaseUS MobiSaver, connect your iPhone or iPad to your PC using the supplied cable and start this software. On its main screen, then choose the Retrieve from iOS Device tab and press the Scan button.

When the analysis is finished, put a check mark on the thumbnail of the video you want to recover, which you can find in the Photo/Video tab, press the Recover button (below), choose the destination folder and press the confirmation button, to export the selected file.

How to recover deleted videos on PC

If you have mistakenly deleted a video on your computer's hard disk or SSD, what you can do is to act through the solutions I will explain in the next chapters, suitable for both Windows and MacOS.

Recycle Bin

If you have deleted a video on your Windows PC or Mac, most likely it is still inside the Recycle Bin. In this case, you can easily recover it using the directions I will give you in the next lines.

First, open the Recycle Bin using its icon on your desktop (Windows) or Dock (macOS). On the screen that appears, locate the video you deleted and right-click on it if you're using Windows. If you're using macOS, you'll need to drag the file icon to a folder of your choice.

Cloud Storage Services

Do you use cloud storage services to store your personal data, including videos? That's great news because if so, you can almost certainly recover them through a section of these services that temporarily stores your deleted files before permanently deleting them.

If you use Dropbox, for example, you can recover deleted files by reaching the official website of the service and logging in with your credentials. Now, in the sidebar of the main screen, select File > Deleted Files and put a check mark on the video to recover, then press the Restore button, located at the top left, and you're done. The file will be returned to the source folder.

The procedures for recovering a deleted video on Google Drive and OneDrive are very similar. Go to Google Drive or OneDrive website and sign in with your credentials. After that, in the sidebar, select the Recycle Bin tab and locate the video you want to recover. Then press the Restore button (the spinning arrow icon), located at the top, and the file restoration process will start.

Finally, you can easily recover a deleted video on iCloud Drive, in a way similar to the one described in the previous paragraphs. First, access the iCloud website using your credentials and click on the iCloud Drive icon. In the lower right corner, click on the Recently Deleted icon and click on the thumbnail of a video to retrieve it instantly.

PhotoRec (Windows/macOS/Linux)

Couldn't recover your video using the solutions I mentioned in the previous chapters? In this case, you can try your luck using some third party solutions dedicated to data recovery by analyzing local memory sectors. Some examples? PhotoRec. This is a free and open source software that allows you to recover files from any memory drive, such as hard drives, SD cards or USB sticks. It comes with TestDisk, another free and open source software specifically dedicated to recover deleted/damaged partitions.

To use PhotoRec on Windows, MacOS or Linux, please download the installation file from the official website first. Please note that on macOS and Linux, however, the software can only be used via command line, as it does not have a graphical interface, which is present in the Windows version.

After reaching the PhotoRec website, click the Download item in the sidebar, and select the operating system version installed on your PC. On Windows, you'll pick up a .zip file, which you'll have to extract into a folder of your choice.

At this point, open the folder where you extracted the contents of the archive and double-click on the file qphotorec_win.exe. Then choose the memory drive to be scanned and select FAT/NTFS/HFS+/ReiferFS, which you can find in the File System Type section.

We are almost there: select the extension of the video files to be recovered, press File Formats key, click OK button and then Navigate, to choose the destination folder (the one where the recovered videos are to be saved). Finally, press Search key, to start scanning and restoring all the files with the extensions you have chosen.

Recuva (Windows)

Another software that can do it for you is Recuva, available for free on Windows PCs. You can also buy a Professional version, not necessary for your purposes, at a cost of 19.95 euros, which unlocks additional features, such as automatic updates or advanced search tools.

If you are interested in this software, I suggest you to get its portable version, which does not require any installation to work, from this page. After downloading the .zip file, extract its contents to any folder on your PC and double click on the .exe file inside it to start Recuva.

On the screen that appears, press the Next button, select the Video option and specify the last location where the video resided before it was deleted (e.g. In the trash can). Then press the Start button to start the memory analysis.

At the end of the procedure, you will see all the videos found by Recuva. To recover one, place a check mark under its thumbnail and press the Recover button at the bottom right of the screen. At this point, choose the destination folder and click the OK button to move the recovered video to the location you selected.

Disk Drill (Windows/macOS)

In addition to the tools I've recommended in the previous chapters, I suggest you to use also Disk Drill, downloadable for free on Windows and macOS. In its free version, it allows you to restore only 500MB of data, but you can remove this limitation by purchasing its Pro version, at a cost of 89 dollars.

To download this software on Windows, go to this page and click on the Free Download button to download its .msi file. Now, double click on the file you just obtained and press Next (three consecutive times), Yes and Close, to finish the setup.

If you use macOS, instead, you have to download Disk Drill by reaching this page and pressing the Free Download button, it will start downloading the .dmg file of the program. When the download is finished, double click the downloaded file and move Disk Drill to the Applications folder of macOS.

Now, right-click its icon and choose Open from the context menu. In the warning that appears on the screen, then press the Open button, to confirm the start of this software by bypassing the basic protections of macOS (this operation is necessary only at the first start). After opening Disk Drill, in the screen that is shown, press the Continue and Start buttons. Now, enter your Mac password in the box provided and click the OK button.

To recover a deleted video, on the main screen of the software, select the drive where the file was present before it was deleted and press the Recover button. After the drive analysis comes to an end, locate the video to be recovered and put a check mark next to its name. All that remains for you to do is press the Recover button, and you're done.

How to recover deleted videos from SD card

Did you accidentally delete a video on the SD card? In that case, if you want to act directly through your Android smartphone, you can use some third-party solutions, such as EaseUS MobiSaver, which I told you about in detail in this chapter.

Alternatively, you can connect the SD card to your PC or Mac and use third party software that analyze memory, like the ones I told you about in the previous chapters, such as PhotoRec or Recuva.

How to recover deleted videos from WhatsApp

If you received a video on WhatsApp and deleted it by mistake, you can attempt to recover it using the solutions I described in previous chapters.

EaseUS MobiSaver can be a great solution to recover a video from your smartphone or tablet storage drive. In this regard, then consult what I have already described in the chapter dedicated to Android or in the chapter dedicated to iOS.

If you have enabled media backup in Google Photo for WhatsApp folders, you can recover your videos by following the instructions I gave you in this chapter.

How to recover deleted videos from YouTube

If you have removed a video from your YouTube channel, unfortunately, I must warn you that it cannot be restored in any way, as the deletion process is irreversible. In this regard, my advice is to make sure that the video is still present on your device's memory unit so that you can recover it from there.

Otherwise, if the video was present on your device but has been deleted from there, you can try to restore it using the tips I gave you in the previous chapters, those dedicated to Android, iOS and PC.

I can't assure you, however, a positive result in the process of recovering data from memory, in case a long time has passed since its deletion: the portion of memory on which the video was saved may have been overwritten by other data, making it impossible to restore it.

How to recover deleted videos from Facebook

The same speech I made for YouTube also applies to Facebook: after a video has been deleted, it is no longer possible to retrieve it, as there is no historical archive of published data.

You can only restore the file if it was previously hosted on the memory of your Android device, iOS or your computer. The procedures you may need to follow are those described in the previous chapters of the tutorial.
