In the following lines, in fact, we're going to find out how to retrieve the videos on WhatsApp, both in one case and the other, both acting as a smartphone and as a computer. Before you get scared and think about who knows what, however, I want to point out from the beginning that you will not have to do anything particularly complex or out of your reach. So? May I know what are you still doing standing there? Stand nice and comfortable and immediately start focusing on the steps below. I'm sure that in the end you'll be happy and satisfied with what you've learned and that you'll even be ready to say that it was actually a piece of cake. Wanna bet?
How to retrieve WhatsApp videos from smartphones
Interested in understanding how to retrieve videos on WhatsApp from your smartphone, whether it's Android or an iPhone? Then follow these steps. In the following steps, you'll find out how to easily locate the videos you're interested in in conversations and how to recover the ones you deleted by mistake.
Retrieve WhatsApp Android video
If you're using an Android device, to retrieve videos you sent or received in a conversation on the popular messaging app, the first thing you need to do is to grab your device, unlock it, go to the home screen, and select the WhatsApp icon.
Now, go to the Chat section of the app and select the conversation you are interested in, then select the name of the user or group at the top and touch Media. In the new screen that appears, make sure the Media section is selected (otherwise you do it), scroll through the list of received and sent media until you find the media for the video file you're interested in (you can recognize it from the preview) tap on it. This will start playing the movie immediately.
If you want to forward the file to someone else, tap on the screen and press the pause button in the middle to stop playback. Then tap on the arrow symbol at the top right and choose the contact you're interested in. If, on the other hand, you want to open the video in another app or to share it, tap on the vertical three-dot button at the top right of the screen and select Share and the relevant app from the menu.
If you are interested in this, I would like to inform you that, always after pressing the button with the three dots vertically, selecting the item Show in chat you can see the position where the video is in the conversation.
In addition to the above, you can retrieve the videos by reaching the location where they are saved on your device. To do this, however, you need to use a file manager, such as the Google Files app.
Once you open the file manager, select the internal memory or SD card entry, open the WhatsApp folder on the next screen and select the Media subfolder. Next, select the WhatsApp Video folder and then select the Private or Sent subfolder, depending on whether the movie you are interested in is a received or sent file, respectively.
To finish, tap on the down arrow next to the preview of the reference video and select, from the menu that appears, Open with (to open the file in another app to choose later) or Copy in (to copy the file to a different location from the current one).
If you want to play the file before opening or copying it, tap on its preview to make sure it's really the item you're interested in.
Recover deleted videos WhatsApp Android
Now, let's see what you can do if your footage received or sent via WhatsApp on Android has been deleted. In order to recover them, you can use backups of your conversations, if you have enabled this feature beforehand (on Google Drive and/or locally), as I explained in my tutorial on the subject, and if the date of the last backup is earlier than the date you deleted the video.
To check this out, start WhatsApp, tap the three-dot vertical button at the top right of the app screen and select Settings from the menu that opens. Next, tap the Chat item, the Chat Backup item, and check the date and time next to Last Backup.
If the backup date is earlier than the date you deleted the videos and the backups are made via Google Drive, do this: delete the WhatsApp app from your device, download the app again from the Play Store, launch it, and follow the initial setup process.
Then check your phone number and when asked if it is your intention to restore chats from previous backup data, please accept. Finally, choose the name and photo you want to use on the app and you're done.
Once you have completed the above steps, by going to WhatsApp's Chat section, you should be able to see all the conversations you had until the backup date and, as a result, you should also find the videos you deleted. To find them more easily, follow the instructions I gave you in the previous step.
Did you backup locally and not via Google Drive? No problem, you can recover deleted videos on WhatsApp even then. To do so, log into the Google Drive management panel and remove WhatsApp from the list of applications you have granted access to. In doing so, you will "force" WhatsApp to examine your phone's internal memory (or SD) instead of Google Drive. Once you have done this, follow the directions I gave you a few more lines about removing and re-installing WhatsApp.
If you are interested, please note that using local files you can also recover backups prior to the most recent one.
Retrieve WhatsApp iPhone video
If you are using an iPhone and you are interested in finding out how to retrieve videos within a conversation on the popular messaging app, the first thing you need to do is to grab the device, unlock it, access the home screen and start WhatsApp by selecting its icon.
Now, go to the Chat section of the WhatsApp app, tap on the conversation you are interested in and select the name of the person or group you are referring to at the top of the display.
Now, select Media, links and documents, go to the Media tab and locate the video you're interested in by scrolling through the list. You can easily recognize it from the preview. Once you've found it, tap on it and playback will start immediately.
Next, if the video you've selected is the correct one, tap on the screen and then on the pause button in the middle to pause playback, then if you want to save it on your iPhone (if you haven't already done so), forward it to another contact or share it in another app, tap on the sharing icon (the one with the rectangle and arrow) at the bottom left and choose the option you prefer from the menu shown.
Recover Deleted Videos WhatsApp iPhone
If you have accidentally deleted movies and you want to find out how to recover videos on WhatsApp from your iPhone in that case, you can, similarly to what you saw for Android in the previous lines, take advantage of the backups, provided that you have previously enabled the appropriate function (on iCloud), and that the date of the last backup is before the date of deletion of the movie.
To make sure of this, start WhatsApp on your "melaphone", select the Settings item at the bottom right of the screen, tap Chat, and then tap the Chat Backup item. Then check what's next to Last Backup on the new screen that opened.
If the backup is prior to deleting the video, uninstall WhatsApp from your iPhone, download the application again from the App Store, launch it and follow the initial setup procedure proposed.
So check your phone number and when asked if you want to restore chats from your previous backup data, you agree to it. Finally, choose the name and photo for your account and you're done.
After performing the above steps, go to WhatsApp's Chat section to view all the conversations you had until the backup date, which is why you should also be able to find the video you deleted. To find it more easily, you can follow the instructions I gave you in the previous step.
How to retrieve WhatsApp videos from your computer
WhatsApp is also usable from a computer, via the Windows and MacOS client or via the web, but in this case, it works as a sort of "satellite" of the smartphone app, which is why the service is only really usable if WhatsApp is also installed on the phone and the phone is connected to the Internet.
What follows, is that recovering videos is possible, but only those within the conversations and not even the files that have been deleted. In this second case, you must always act as a mobile, as I have already explained in the previous lines, or using special software, as I indicated in the next step.
Based on the above, you can then retrieve WhatsApp videos from your computer as follows: start WhatsApp on your PC and, if you have not already done so in the past, scan the QR code that appears on the screen. If you don't know how to do this, open WhatsApp on your phone, go to Settings > WhatsApp Web/Desktop > Scan the QR Code and frame the code in the WhatsApp window on your PC with your smartphone camera.
Now that you see the WhatsApp screen, locate the conversation that contains the video you are interested in in the list on the left, click on it, and select the contact or group name in the upper right corner.
Now, click on the Media, links and documents link in the Media tab and locate the reference movie from the list displayed. You can recognize it right away from its preview. Next, click on it. This will immediately start playing the video. To stop playback, press the Pause button.
If you want to download the movie to your PC, click on the down-arrow button at the top right, and to view its location within the conversation click on the comic icon (if any). To forward the movie, instead, click on the icon with the right arrow at the top and select the reference contact.
How to Recover WhatsApp Videos Without Backup

Under the circumstances, the best advice I can offer you is to use some computer software designed to recover deleted data.
If you have an Android smartphone and don't have a computer at hand, you can also go and act directly from your mobile device, using apps designed specifically for this purpose.
