You often use Facebook chat to chat with friends, family and colleagues but just as frequently you can't find the conversations you're interested in and would like to know how to retrieve them? If the answer is yes, know that I have a good, indeed great news to give you: recovering deleted Facebook messages is possible and I can explain how to do it.
There are two different ways to recover deleted Facebook messages. The first solution, which can be used by computers, smartphones and tablets, is to try to search through the archived messages (whether by mistake or not) the conversations of your interest, while the second solution is to download a backup copy of all your data made available over time on the social network. In both cases, these operations are very simple to perform, but you should keep this in mind, they require a minimum of patience on the part of the user.
Having said this, if you are actually interested in finding out how to recover deleted Facebook messages, I invite you to make yourself comfortable and spend a few minutes of your precious time reading this guide. I am sure that in the end you will be more than satisfied and that at the first good opportunity you will also be willing to explain to your friends in need of a similar tip on how to proceed.
Recover deleted Facebook messages from archived conversations
If you are interested in understanding what you need to do to recover deleted Facebook messages, the first thing I suggest you do is to take a look at the archived conversations, i.e. those conversations that seem to have been deleted but that in reality have simply been "put aside" and therefore no longer appear in the main menu of social network messages.
To try to recover deleted Facebook messages from archived conversations the first thing you need to do is to connect to Mark Zuckerberg's social network. To do this, type www.facebook.com in the address bar of your web browser that I usually use to browse the web, press the Enter button on your keyboard so that you can immediately connect to the main social network web page, type in your Facebook account login information by filling in the appropriate fields that are shown at the top right of the screen and then click on the button with the sign in button.
When you are logged in, click on the cartoon icon located at the top right and select the item Show all attached to the box displayed on the screen. Then click on the Other item at the top left and select the Archive item from the menu that is shown to you. This will allow you to view all of the Facebook conversations that have been archived, those that no longer appear in the main list of messages written or received on the social network and that therefore seem to have been deleted.
At this point, all you have to do is move your mouse cursor over the conversation of your interest attached to the left sidebar of the newly displayed screen and click on the Cancel Storage button, which shows a small upward-facing arrow at the bottom right, under the name of the other person or persons who have participated in the chat.
After clicking the button, the previously archived conversation will be moved to the main section of Facebook from which you usually view the messages exchanged with other users. Obviously before retrieving deleted Facebook messages as I have just indicated you can make sure that the conversation you are about to retrieve is actually the one you are interested in by pressing on it and taking a look at the chat history attached to the right side of the screen displayed.
As an alternative to the procedure I've just indicated, you can cancel the archiving of the various chats and then try to recover deleted Facebook messages by accessing the Archived section, pressing on the conversion you want to act on, bringing the mouse cursor on the icon representing a gear wheel located at the top of the screen, clicking on it and choosing the Cancel archiving item from the menu that is shown.
Again, once the conversation has been deleted, it will be moved to the main section of Facebook from where you usually view messages exchanged with other users.
From smartphones and tablets
Are you interested in understanding how to recover deleted Facebook messages from archived conversations from your smartphone or tablet? If the answer is yes, I am very happy to tell you that not only is it possible, but it is also extremely easy to do. Now I'll explain everything.
If you want to retrieve Facebook deleted messages from your smartphone or tablet and use the Messenger app, start the app by tapping on its icon and then fill in the search field at the top by typing the name of the person you want to retrieve Facebook deleted messages from and press on the most relevant result.
Once you've done that, if the Facebook conversation you want to retrieve has simply been archived, you'll be shown a new screenshot of the app and you'll be able to read it over again as if nothing ever happened. Simple, right?
As an alternative to the procedure I have just indicated, you can retrieve deleted Facebook messages from smartphones and tablets even directly from your web browser, without Messenger app. To do this, just follow the procedure I indicated in the previous lines, when I explained how to do it from a computer, but take care to request the display of the Facebook website in desktop mode.
To activate desktop viewing mode on iOS, press the arrow icon attached to the screen you are viewing by starting Safari and press the Request desktop site icon in the menu that appears in the second line of icons. To activate desktop mode on Android, click on the Chrome button (...) at the top right of the screen and select the Request Desktop Site item from the menu that opens.
Recover deleted Facebook messages from backup copy
If by looking through the various archived chat sessions you couldn't find the conversation or conversions you were looking for, you can try to retrieve deleted Facebook messages from the backup copy of your account. A backup copy of your account on the famous social network allows you to always have access to information, photos, posts, messages exchanged with friends and anything else you have chosen to make available on the famous social network. You can see the complete list of data that you can consult by creating a backup copy of your Facebook account by connecting to the Facebook Help Center information page.
To download a backup of your data from Facebook, connect to the main page of the social network using your login details and then click on the downward arrow icon at the top right of the blue Facebook bar and click on the Settings item attached to the menu that is shown.
In the new lineup that's shown at this point, make sure that the Generals item is selected from the left sidebar (and if not, click on it!) then click on the Download a copy link at the bottom right and then on the Start my archive button. Then type the password for your Facebook account, press the Send button and then click the Start my archive button to confirm the operation.
When the archive containing the copy of your Facebook data is ready you will receive the link to download it directly by email, to the email address linked to your account on the social network. Please note that depending on the amount of data, this may take longer than one day. Be patient.
Once you have a backup copy of your data, you can finally consult it and try to recover deleted Facebook messages.
