Unfortunately, however, you can't remember your password and all your attempts to access it have not been successful. I guessed right, didn't I? Then I don't see what the problem is: if you want, I'm here to help you and explain how to recover your account.
If you give me a few minutes of your free time, I can tell you how to recover Skype passwords from computers, smartphones and tablets as quickly and easily as possible. First, I'll walk you through the process of verifying your identity and setting up a new access key that will allow you to access your account again, and then I'll also explain how to try to recover it if it's not associated with any phone number or if you no longer have access to the secondary email address used to recover your password.
If you agree, let's not waste any more time chatting and get down to business! Come on: make yourself comfortable, take five minutes off and read the next few paragraphs. Follow the instructions I'm about to give you, try to put them into practice and I can assure you that setting a new password for your Skype account will be a piece of cake. All that remains for me to do is to wish you good reading and good luck with everything!
Retrieve Skype password on PC
The easiest way to retrieve your Skype password is from your computer. Doing so, you can either set up a new access key or start the procedure to recover your account if you cannot verify your identity.
To proceed and retrieve the login key to your Skype account, launch the program installed on your computer and click the Sign In or Create Account button. On the new screen that appears, enter your username, phone number or the email address associated with your account in the Email, Phone or Skype field and click the Next button, then choose Forgot your password, make sure the details on the Recover your account screen are correct and click the Next button.
Now, choose the procedure to verify your identity by placing a checkmark next to one of the options between SMS to [phone number], Call [phone number] and Send email to [email address]. If you have not assigned a secondary phone number or email address to your Skype account, you may not see all of the above options.
If you have chosen to verify your identity by SMS or phone call, enter the last 4 digits of your phone number in the field provided and press the Send code button. If you have placed a checkmark next to the Send email to [email address] option, enter the missing part of your email address and click the Send code button.
Whatever your choice, after receiving the 7-digit verification code, enter it in the Enter code field and press the Next button. If you are experiencing problems with your previously chosen method, select Use a different verification option to return to the previous screen and check the box next to another option to verify your identity.
Now, enter your new password (minimum 8 characters including upper case, lower case, numbers and symbols) to use to access your account in the New Password and Confirm Password fields and click the Next button. The message Your account has been recovered will confirm that you have changed your password. Then, on the Next button, enter your login details in the Email, Phone or Skype and Password fields and click the Login button to access your Skype account.
If Skype is not installed on your computer, start the web browser you usually use to browse the Internet (e.g. Chrome or Safari) and connect to the official Skype website, then click the Login button at the top right and choose one of the available options between My Account and Use Skype Online from the menu that appears.
On the newly opened page, enter the username, email address or phone number associated with your Skype account in the Email, Phone or Skype field and press the Next button. On the Enter Password screen, click the Forgot Password option, press the Next button and choose one of the available options from SMS to [phone number], Call [phone number] and Send email to [email address].
Now, enter the missing information about your phone number or email address, press the Send code button, enter the code in the Enter code field and press the Next button. Finally, set a new access key to your account in the New password and Confirm password fields, click the Next button and you're done.
It will be useful to know that if you no longer have access to the email address or phone number associated with your account and therefore cannot verify your identity, you can proceed to recover your account by selecting I don't have any of this information on the We need to verify your identity screen.
On the newly opened page, verify that your username, email address or phone number in the Email Address, Phone or Skype Name field is correct, then enter an email address that you can access in the Contact Email Address field, type the verification code that appears on the screen in the verification field and press the Next button. Within seconds you will receive an email containing a 4-digit security code - enter it in the Enter code field here and click the Verify button.
Now, enter the required information in the First Name, Last Name, Date of Birth, Country/geographical area where you created your account, Province, and Postal Code fields and click the Next button, then, if you remember them, enter old passwords you used for your account, indicate if you used your account with Microsoft products (Outlook.com, Skype, and Xbox), and check one of the options between Yes and No to indicate if you have ever made a purchase on the Microsoft website with that account.
On the new screen that appears, enter the email address used to create your account in the What email address did you use to sign up for Skype? Enter the first and last names of three contacts in the Contacts list of your Skype account and check one of the available options between No and Yes under Have you ever made a payment for Skype?
Finally, press the Next and OK buttons to send your account recovery request. If the information you provided is sufficient, you will receive instructions to set up a new password at the email address above within 24 hours. If not, I am sorry to say that you cannot recover your account password.
Recovering Skype passwords on smartphones and tablets
To recover your Skype password on smartphones and tablets, start the popular VoIP service application by tapping on its icon (the "S" on a blue background) on your device's home screen. If you haven't downloaded it to your smartphone or tablet yet, you might need my guide on how to download Skype for free.
Then tap the Start and Sign In or Create Account buttons to access the login screen, then enter the email address, phone number or username associated with your account into the Skype, phone or email field and tap the Next button. On the Enter Password screen, choose the Forgot Password option and tap the Next button to start the process of setting up a new access key to your account.
Now, place a checkmark next to one of the options available on the Verify your identity screen: SMS to [phone number] to receive a verification code via SMS; Call [phone number] to get the verification code via phone call and Send email to [email address] to receive the code to the secondary email address associated with your Skype account. Regardless of your choice, please enter the missing details of your phone number or email address in the appropriate field and tap the Send code button to receive the 7-digit verification code. Then enter it in the Enter code field and tap the Next button.
To complete the recovery of the access key to your Skype account, enter a new password in the New Password and Confirm Password fields, click the Next button twice in a row and you're done. Now, to access your account, simply enter your newly created password into the Password field and press the Sign In button.
If, on the other hand, you no longer have access to the phone number or email address associated with your account and are used to recover your password, you should know that you cannot recover your login key using the Skype application. If this is the case, you can proceed from your browser by following the instructions I gave you in the chapter on how to recover Skype PC passwords in this guide.
