open the doors of uTorrent you have to enter the configuration panel of your router. Therefore, start the browser you usually use to surf the Internet (eg. Chrome o Firefox) and try to connect to the address 192.168.1.1 oppure all'indirizzo 192.168.0.1.

If neither of the two "coordinates" turns out to work, you can find out the exact IP address of your router using some tools included "standard" in Windows and macOS.

If you use a PC Windowsclick on your button Home (the flag icon located in the lower left corner of the screen), look for the control panel in the latter and click on the first search result, in order to access the classic Windows control panel.

In the window that you now see on the screen, select the item Networkwhy are you cheating? network and sharing center and, finally, the name of the connection in use (eg. Ethernet). Finally, press the button Details and you will find the router address in the field IPv4 default gateway.

If you use a Mac, go to instead System preference (the'gear icon located in the Dock bar) and click on the icon Network. Then select the name of the connection in use (eg. Once connected to the admin panel of the router, you will be asked to type a combination of username e Password to access device options. Usually, this combination is admin / admin or admin / password (but for safety reasons it should be changed). If you can't find the right one, consult the router manual or try the suggestions in my guide on how to find the modem and router password.

Open uTorrent router ports

How to open uTorrent ports

Now comes the most important part: you have to configure the router to open the port used by uTorrent and allow the software to communicate freely with the outside. Unfortunately each router has a menu structured in a different way, so I will not be able to be very precise in my indications, but in principle I can tell you that you have to identify the option for the port mapping (o port forwarding), start creating a new rule (or a new one virtual server) and fill in the form proposed to you as follows.

  • Interior door / Initial door - the port number of uTorrent.
  • External door / Final door - the uTorrent port number (the same value entered in the field relating to the internal / initial port).
  • Port type / Protocol – TCP.
  • Destination IP / Server IP address - the local IP address of the computer on which you use uTorrent. If you don't know what your PC's local IP address is, follow the directions in my tutorial on finding out your computer's IP address.
  • Name / Description - a name of your choice to assign to the newly created rule (eg "uTorrent").

Once you have filled out the form, click on the button Save / Apply and that's it.

How do you say? Have you tried to follow my instructions but have not been able to find the right options to open the uTorrent ports on the router model in your possession? So let's do some practical examples regarding some of the most popular routers at the moment.
