Merge Excel cells on PC
If you want to merge spreadsheet cells and use Excel for Windows or macOS, proceed as follows: open the document on which you want to act and identify the cells to merge.
At this point, click on the first cell to merge, hold down the left mouse button and select the other cells to merge, which must be to the right of the first selected cell, if you want to merge cells horizontally, or below it, if you want to merge cells vertically.
Alternatively, you can select cells that are both below and to the right of the first selected cell to merge a group of adjacent cells.
If you prefer to navigate the workbook using only the keyboard, use the directional arrows to reach the first cell to be joined, then hold down the key Shift / Shift and use the right arrow e / o la down arrow to select the other cells to merge.
Now, all you have to do is select the tab Home from the Excel toolbar (top left), expand the menu Merge and center located in the center of the latter and select one of the available options.
- Merge and center - to merge cells horizontally and center the text within the merged cell. If multiple-row cells have been selected, adjacent cells in each row will be merged horizontally. The text of the upper left cell will be kept, the contents of the other cells will be cleared.
- Merge - to merge cells horizontally, leaving the text within the merged cell left justified. If you have selected multiple-row cells, adjacent cells will be merged horizontally. Only the text of the upper left cell will be kept, the contents of the other cells will be cleared.
- Merge cells - to unify the cells horizontally and vertically (in order to create a single large cell from several cells arranged over several rows). Only the text of the first cell on the top left will be kept, the rest will be cleared.
Once you have made all the desired changes to your spreadsheet, you can save the file by simply clicking on the icon floppy disk located at the top left or, if you want to save a new copy of the document, by going to the menu Fillet of Excel, located at the top left, and selecting the option Save with name give the menu check if you press.
