As I said at the beginning, there are several app to know who calls you for free, Both for Android that for iOS. Below, therefore, you will find the ones that I believe to be the best.
Hiya (Android / iOS)
The first solution I suggest you use is Hiya. It is available for both Android that for iOS and relies on a database with telephone numbers, for which it is possible to view the call ID and thus know if it is a number that is potentially unwanted or not.
It also allows you to set up barriers for incoming calls, so you don't get any more hassle. Note that it allows you to choose whether to share the number or not, but for a matter of privacy it is obviously advisable to avoid. Basically it is free, but offers the subscription of a paid subscription (at the basic cost of 4,49 euros / month) to enable the automatic blocking of unwanted calls (otherwise only the identity of the caller is reported but the phone call is not blocked ).
To download and install it on your device, if you are using Android, access the relevant section of the Play Store and press the button Install. If you are using a device on which the Play Store is not available, you can download it through an alternative store. If you are using iOSinstead, access the relevant section of the App Store, press the button Get, quindi quello Install and authorize the app via Face ID, touch ID o password dell'ID Apple.
Next, start Hiya by selecting its icon which has been added to the home screen, then to start monitoring the calls you receive and find out who the relative number belongs to, tap the button Introduction, skip sharing the number, grant the various permissions required to allow the app to work properly and press the button Free, to take advantage of the free version of the service; alternatively, choose to subscribe to one of the proposed subscriptions (if you also want to use blocking for unwanted calls).
If you are using the app version for iPhone, also go to the section Settings> Phone> Call blocking and identification of iOS and to move on ON the switch located next to the name of the app.
If you want, you can also decide to "manually" search for a specific number in the app database. To do this, if you are using Android, go to the section Call and search among the calls received the one relating to the number of your interest. If, on the other hand, you are using iOS, tap on the item Research located at the bottom, enter the telephone number you would like to know more about in the appropriate text field and select any matches found.
Should I Answer (Android/iOS)
Another app that, in my opinion, you would do well to put to the test is Should I Answer. It is a solution available for both Android that for iOS, capable of identifying and blocking calls from "known annoyances" and that does not require you to share your number in a public directory.
The database of numbers it relies on is enriched by the feedback released by the users themselves: this ensures that, at least in theory, the reliability with which the application is able to identify and block calls from call centers, from operators of telemarketing or other nuisances grow over time. Already today, however, it is one of the most valid app to know who is calling you on iPhone e Android. It's free, but in-app purchases are offered and a subscription is required on the iPhone (at a cost of € 1,99 / month) to activate call blocking.
To download and install Should I Answer on your device Android, proceed from the relevant section of the Play Store (or from alternative stores, if you have a device without Google services), while if you are using iOS you can proceed from the relevant section of the App Store.
Then start the app by selecting its icon added to the home screen. Now that you see her home screen, grant her all permits necessary to make it work at its best and scroll through the cards that show you how it works.
Later, if you use the version for Android of the app, click on the button Active protection if you intend to prevent unwanted calls (in this case, however, you will be asked to use Should I Answer as Default Phone app) or tap the button Passive protection to simply activate the display of alerts against spam or otherwise unwanted calls. Now, based on your choice, select the type of alerts to display or possibly allow the app to access information relating to calls.
If you deem it necessary, you can more thoroughly adjust the settings of the chosen option by tapping the button with the three lines horizontally at the top right, by selecting the item Settings from the menu that appears, then that Block e Notifications and acting on the various items on the next screen.
You can also decide to keep unwanted call protection off and to use Should I Answer only to figure out who a particular phone number belongs to by searching for it manually. In this case, tap the button No protection and scroll through the call log list that you find in the tab Recent to view information relating to the numbers of your interest. Alternatively, you can perform a direct search by tapping on the icon magnifying glass at the top right and typing the telephone number of your interest in the text field that appears.
If, on the other hand, you are using the app version for iPhone, go to the section Settings> Phone> Call blocking and identification of iOS and move on ON the switch located in correspondence with the wording ShouldIAnswer. Then, open the Should I Answer screen again, tap the icon with the ruota d'ingranaggio at the top right and move up ON l'interruttore situato accanto alla dicitura Block negative calls. After doing this, hit the button Ok, Let’s Go!, choose to subscribe and the app will start monitoring all incoming calls.
If you do not want to subscribe or in any case alternatively, you can use the app even just to search for the numbers from which you received calls and find out if they are present in the Should I Answer database, in order to try to identify who they belong to. . To do this, press the button Search number that you find in the main screen of the application, type the telephone number of your interest in the appropriate field, press the button Search and consult any matches found.
Truecaller (Android/iOS)
Among the best apps to know who is calling, it is certainly also included Truecaller. It is available for Android e iOS and allows both to discover and to preventively block the calls coming from the so-called “known annoyers”. It is also possible to use a search function to trace the identity of a person starting from his mobile number. By subscribing to the Pro version of the service (with costs starting from 3,99 euros per month) you can also search by starting from the name of a person and then go back to his number and on iOS it is possible to have a more extensive version of the list of hassles and enable automatic updating of the same.
Before explaining how Truecaller works, however, it is my duty to inform you about some "Compromises" regarding their privacy related to the use of this service. The app, in fact, can only be used after having accepted the sharing of one's mobile number within its database. By agreeing to this, the user's number is made public and can be easily found in the Truecaller database.
That said, to download and install Truecaller on your device, if you are using Android, proceed from the relevant section of the Play Store (or from alternative stores, if you have a device without Google services), while if you are using iOS you can proceed from the relevant section of the App Store.
Next, start the app by selecting the app icon present on the home screen and follow the wizard to create your account: then type yours number in the appropriate field, wait for this to be verified by an automatic call or by sending a SMS by Truecaller, enter your name, your surname and your email (optional) in the fields displayed on the screen and press the button Continue.
At this point, you will be asked to enable nuisance detection. To do this, if you are using Android, tap on the icon shield located at the top right, then locate the item Block well known spammers and move up ON the relative lever. If you also want to block the numbers that hide behind the anonymous, please also bring up ON also the toggle next to the function Block Private Numbers. Then remember to update, from time to time, the database with the numbers to be blocked, by tapping on the item Update that you always find in the screen in question.
If you use an iPhone, however, first go to the section Settings> Phone> Call blocking and identification di iOS and move up ON the switch located in correspondence with the wording Truecaller. Then, open the Truecaller app again, go to the section Unwanted IDs and press on the item Update now to update the list with known annoyance numbers. A little tip: do this from time to time to keep the list up to date.
The automatic database update, as already mentioned, is only for Premium users (paid). Another important thing to underline is that the call blocking is not automatic: if you want, you can block the calls of the individual annoyances who contact you (and that Truecaller will notify you) by manually adding them to the list of calls to block on the iPhone.
If you want to use the search function integrated in Truecaller to find out who called you, instead, go to the section Home of the app and type the number you want to search in the search bar. If the address entered is included in the Truecaller database, you should see a summary card which indicates some information regarding the holder of the number that was the subject of your search.
Should you decide not to use Truecaller anymore, you can request removal of your number from the service database by going to deactivate your account by filling out the appropriate form. You can deactivate your Truecaller account directly from the app, proceeding as follows: on Android, go to the section Home of the app, press the button with the three lines horizontally top left, on the item Settingsyour complaint Privacy Center and on that disable; on iOS, go to the section Other dell'app, select the voice Settingswhy are you cheating? Privacy Center and touches the wording Deactivate account.
Other apps to know who is calling you
In addition to the apps to know who is calling you that I have extensively told you about so far, there are other solutions that may be useful to you, such as the ones I have included in the list below.
- White pages (Android / iOS) - excellent free app to know who is calling you, which, as can be easily understood from the name itself, is nothing more than the “smart” version of the well-known paper address book. It allows you to trace the identity of the person who called through direct search and the variant for Android also integrates a special function that allows you to know who is calling. Within the service it is possible to find mainly landline and mobile phone numbers of companies and professionals. It's free.
- Yellow Pages (Android / iOS) - is the digital transposition of the classic Yellow Pages. Just like its paper version, it allows you to find the numbers of professionals and businesses, quickly and easily. It's free.
- Sync.Me (Android / iOS) - it is an app capable of identifying the public information of other users related to their telephone numbers, whether landline or mobile. It should be noted that it offers in-app purchases (at a basic cost of 2,99 euros / month) to unlock all the available functions.
- Caller ID (Android) - another caller identification application available for Android. Search the Internet, social networks, the email address book and other sources of information to provide as much detail as possible about who is calling. Basically it is free, but offers in-app purchases (at a minimum cost of 1,15 euros) to unlock additional functions.
App to know who is calling you with the private number
In conclusion, it seems only right to tell you about the app to know who is calling you with your private number. Among the best solutions belonging to the category there is Whooming. It is available for Android e iOS and uses the call forwarding technique to trace the identity of the caller even if he made a phone call with the anonymous. You can use it for free and for the first 7 days it allows you to see in clear the numbers that call with the anonymous, but at the end of the trial the final part of the numbers is obscured with #, unless you subscribe (which starts at 11,99 euros for 3 months).
To download and install thisapp to see who is calling you with the stranger, if you are using Android proceed from the relevant section of the Play Store (or from alternative stores, if you have a device without Google services), while if you are using iOS you can proceed from the relevant section of the App Store.
Then, start the app, selecting the relative icon that has been added to the home screen, tap the button Log in with your e-mail, tap on the item register here, fill in the text fields Insert your email, Create a password e Confirm Password, taking care to provide all the requested information, and press the button SUBSCRIBE.
Then, write the verification code which is provided to you via email at the address indicated during registration and then press the button Verifica. Otherwise, if you do not want to register via your email address, do so with your Google, Facebook or Apple account, by pressing one of the appropriate buttons.
After registration, click on the button Setup begins, indicate in the appropriate form the country, the operator and the telephone number to be registered, press the button NEXT, quindi quello Set number diversion and call the number that appeared on the dialer phone number (e.g. ** 67 * 0694500075 #). Then, go back to the Whooming app, press the button OK I'm ready!on that one Call your number and call yourself.
After calling your number, go back to the Whooming app, press the button Go to the call list, allow the app to access the phone book and that's it.
